Scientific Name:
Chrotogale owstoni
Listed as vulnerable by the IUCN this rarely seen civet from Laos and northern Vietnam remains a bit of an enigma. One thing that is known of it is that it emits a foul smelling secretion from its anal glands. Perhaps the bold markings serve not only to disguise the animals outline at night but to warn others to stay away.
A painting from the Animalia Ornata series, a collection specifically designed for the Studio Schouten website.
