Scientific Name: Lophophorus impeyanus

This brilliantly coloured pheasant is an inhabitant of open coniferous, bamboo and rhododendron forests of the high Himalayas. In common with many other high altidude species such as birds of paradise and the hummingbirds, this pheasant uses highly reflective metallic feathering for its territorial and courtship displays.

This painting features in the book and exhibition 'Astonishing Animals'.
